Why did you choose to pursue an apprenticeship?
It was a combination of things. I felt that university was not for me as I wanted to gain some real workplace experience and study towards qualifications at the same time. Also, I have always preferred working hands-on, outside of a classroom, and an apprenticeship allows you to do this.
What has been the highlight of your apprenticeship so far?
I can’t pinpoint one thing that has been a highlight for me as there have been many. Completing my first rotation and moving into a new department where I have gained even more responsibilities is something I am excited about.
Describe a normal day.
A normal working day for me currently would be to initially check my emails and catch up with any outstanding tasks. I would then attend the daily meeting at our tablet manufacturing facility before heading back to my office and reporting back any new updates. The remainder of the day would be spent attending any meetings in my calendar and ensuring that our production schedule is up to date. As the week progresses I may then complete any outstanding university work that I have.
How would you describe your role in 5 words?
Challenging, vigorous, rewarding, enjoyable and valuable.
What advice would you give to someone considering an apprenticeship?
Go for it! Have a look around on the internet, attend apprenticeship open evenings, and talk to friends. Once you have worked out what apprenticeship suits you, apply. If you are fortunate enough to be asked to attend an assessment day, you will have a chance to understand GSK better and I’m sure you will be sold.
